Michael Jackson passes away at 50

At CMG Worldwide, we represent the greatest legends of the past. Our client list includes sports heroes, actors, musicians, authors and historical figures. Marilyn Monroe and James Dean are just a few of the famous names we represent. But these people were more than just celebrities - they changed the world that we live in. The entertainers we represent were pioneers who set the bar for all those who came after them; they were stars who shined brighter than anyone else in the business.
Michael Jackson was, and will remain, one of those icons. From an early age, he has been a mainstay on the popular music scene. He made his professional music debut when he was just a kid as a member of the Jackson 5, but eventually proved to be even stronger solo. He was the first African-American artist to gain a strong crossover following on MTV. Five of his solo albums have become some of the best-selling records in the world, including Thriller, which is the world’s best-selling album of all time. He has rightfully been dubbed the “King of Pop”.
Jackson’s untimely death brings to mind the story of a client of ours, James Dean. Like Jackson, Dean grew up in a small town in Indiana and eventually became an entertainer. Tragically, he died young, just as his acting career was taking off. Though he only made a few movies, Dean had such star power that he has remained one of the most legendary icons from Indiana. Generations of people will remember Michael Jackson like this as well. His death couldn’t have come at a worse time - he was prepared to reenter the spotlight and start touring again after a long hiatus. Like Dean, he had reached a turning point in his career, and his future could not have been brighter. Though his death was untimely and tragic, he will go down in history as a legend and pop culture icon.
