Tom and Huck Statue Rededicated

After undergoing an extensive renovation, a statue of famous “Huckleberry Finn” characters Tom and Huck in Hannibal, Missouri has been completed and was rededicated on Saturday.

Renovations started three years ago after officials found that parts of the statue had deteriorated and were unsafe. First dedicated in 1926, the statue is one of only a few in the world that depicts fictional characters.

Hannibal is the boyhood home of “Huckleberry Finn” author Mark Twain. Hundereds of thousands of tourists flock to Hannibal each year to see the famous landmark.

Memorial Day weekend also marked the inaugural Twain on Main River Life Festival in Hannibal. This year’s theme for the two-day festivites along Main Street was Twain’s book, “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”.
